Home Decorations – Curtains: Color And Style

One of the big pleasures in the life of a woman is decorating her home. All the effort of planning, of having to choose only one for each element, and then of course the actual putting in practice – all of it is quite worth it at the end, when the new look is settled in and you can finally enjoy it. Surely no such effort would leave out those essential elements of style that make even the blandest window look interesting – the curtains.

Lets start with a model that is much preferred in modern times, owing to its simplicity and practicality – the tab top. Named this way for its catching method (tabs of fabric at the top that allow for the support pole to go through), this model is easy to procure and affordable. Its look might be said to be simple to the point of austere, due to the lack of folds, but it fits quite well in a work space or a hallway or even the kitchen. And who is to say you cant choose a fancy pattern to make it stand out a bit, in a cool color such as silvery gray or some hue of blue, perhaps an electric one?

Moving onto the living room, we propose a more formal style known as the French pleats or the pinch pleats: three pleats are pinched together at relatively large intervals. The result is a neatly arranged curtain with full folds – elegant yet not pretentious. The effect of such a curtain would be best seen if the windows in question offer a view to a garden, a park or a forest. Therefore, warm, rich colors are recommended, such as creams or golds, perhaps even boldly adorned with patterns of birds, blossoming trees or large flowers.

For a unique look, the star is the smocked curtain heading, a complicated to sew, therefore rarely seen model. Consequently, it is only custom made, and in combination with a personal choice of fabric and color, you will obtain a curtain that will single your windows out. Put them in your bedroom and go for a “little cottage in the woods” feel by having them made in tones of green or brown, colors that are associated with the healing power of nature, balance and stability.

In the end, whether they are ready-made or made to measure, curtains will breathe life into your room. Let your inspiration guide you when looking for the right style, and always keep in mind the other elements involved in the change brought about the house. Take your time browsing the countless patterns, colors and fabrics so you can make the best of it and enjoy them at the end!
