You know the old saying “you get what you pay for”, well where cheap blinds are concerned there is no truer statement. You can still get cheap blinds at an affordable price if you are willing to do some looking around. If you plan on putting the blinds in a room that isn’t used that often then by all means go ahead and get the cheapest blinds you can find. If you are putting them in a room that you are going to use all the time then you might want to spend a little more and get blinds that actually work.

There comes a point in your life when you just gotta say this is too cheap. It becomes a matter of principal at this moment. One the one hand you need a set of cheap blinds and on the other hand is it worth the aggravation? I headed out to find mini blinds for the bathroom and my daughters room. What better place to go then the dollar store. You can’t get a much cheaper set of blinds anywhere else in the world. I don’t know how it happened but I found the perfect size and the perfect color. The cheap blind was white and it was the only color they had. Good thing I was looking for a white set of cheap blinds. When I got home I realized two things. The first was that I forgot to get blinds for my daughters room and the second was that no screws came with the blinds. How do you leave out the screws? After about two hours of searching for screws I finally found enough to hang this cheap blind.

I hung the cheap blinds and “low and behold” I failed to realize that although the width was fine they were about three feet too long. Down came the blinds again. I now had to figure out how to make them shorter without completely destroying the cheap blinds. I found the instructions in the box and there it was, the complete guide to shortening your blinds. It was in every conceivable language except for English. Now I have never seen this before. Everything is always in English, right? Not this time. Off to the internet to search for instructions on how to shorten my cheap blinds. an hour later I was armed and ready to go. Following the instructions perfectly I now had a set of perfectly sized cheap blinds to install in my bathroom.

Back up went the cheap blinds. They fit perfectly and they even went up and down with minimal effort. Something was wrong though. I just started laughing uncontrollably. You could see right through the blinds. I mean why would someone want blinds that they could see through. I’m not voyeuristic and I kinda respect my privacy, so I’m thinking these cheap blinds are not for me.

Now everyone knows that in order to be able to keep the cost low you have to use cheaper material. But if you are designing cheap blinds you might want to skimp on the screws or the brackets or even the pull cord but you can’t skimp on the slats for the blinds. This defeats the whole purpose of the blind. It’s no longer a cheap Blind it is now a cheap see-through.

You certainly do get what you pay for. You can definitely get cheap blinds at reasonable prices but not at the dollar store.
